How to Turn On VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling: Jio, Airtel, Vi, Globe, Smart, Telcel, Claro

How to turn on VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling (VoWiFi) on Android, Samsung Galaxy, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo or iPhone, with notes for Jio, Airtel, Vi, Globe, Smart, Telcel and Claro.
Last updated: November 2026 (Android 15/16, One UI 7/8, HyperOS, ColorOS, iOS 18/26).

Quick answer: update the phone, switch on VoLTE in the mobile network settings, then switch on Wi-Fi Calling and connect to Wi-Fi. You do not need an app or a new APN, but your phone, SIM and carrier must all support the service.

VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling: what is the difference?

  • VoLTE carries your calls over the 4G network, so calls connect faster and mobile data keeps working during a call.
  • Wi-Fi Calling carries your calls over a Wi-Fi connection, which helps at home or in a building with a weak signal. You use the normal Phone app and your own number.

Turn on VoLTE

  • Samsung Galaxy: Settings -> Connections -> Mobile networks -> VoLTE calls.
  • Other Android phones: Settings -> Mobile network or SIMs -> choose your SIM -> VoLTE. On some phones it is called 4G calling or HD Voice.
  • iPhone: Settings -> Mobile Service (Cellular) -> Mobile Data Options -> Voice & Data -> turn on VoLTE.

A VoLTE or HD icon in the status bar shows it is working. Some phones do not show an icon.

Turn on Wi-Fi Calling

  1. Connect to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Android: open Settings -> Connections or Mobile network and switch on Wi-Fi Calling.
  3. iPhone: open Settings -> Mobile Service (Cellular) -> Wi-Fi Calling and switch it on.
  4. On a dual SIM phone, turn it on for the correct SIM.

Notes for each carrier

  • Jio: keep VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling both on. Outside India, Wi-Fi calls can only be made to Indian numbers, but you can receive calls from anywhere. See the Jio APN settings.
  • Airtel: update the phone, switch on VoLTE, then switch on Wi-Fi Calling. There is no separate app and no extra charge. Call 121 for help. See the Airtel APN settings.
  • Vi: you need a Vi 4G SIM with VoLTE active, and availability depends on your circle. Wi-Fi Calling does not work in Airplane mode. Call 199 or 198 for help. See the Vi APN settings.
  • Globe: the SIM must be upgraded to LTE or 5G. Postpaid customers can ask for the service in the GlobeOne app under Help & Support. For prepaid and TM, it depends on the line, so ask Globe support. See the Globe APN settings.
  • Smart: it works on Smart Signature, Smart Infinity and selected Smart Prepaid and TNT lines. Smart suggests keeping VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling both on. Wi-Fi Calling needs at least 100 kbps. See the Smart APN settings.
  • Telcel: you need a compatible Telcel phone and SIM version 6.2 or newer; if your SIM is older, change it at a Telcel Customer Service Centre. Switch on VoLTE in the phone. VoWiFi has to be added to your line at a Customer Service Centre, at no extra cost, for Renta, Mixto and Amigo lines. See the Telcel APN settings.
  • Claro: Claro runs separately in each country, so VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling depend on your country, plan and phone. If the switches are missing, ask Claro whether the service can be turned on for your line.

The VoLTE or Wi-Fi Calling switch is missing

  • Install the latest system update and accept any carrier settings update.
  • Phones bought in another country may not support the service on your carrier, even if the same model works elsewhere.
  • Older SIMs may not support VoLTE. Ask your carrier for a replacement.
  • Make sure the phone is set to 4G/LTE or 5G, not 3G only. See How to Turn On 5G.

VoLTE or Wi-Fi Calling is on but calls fail

  1. Switch Airplane mode on, wait 10 seconds, and switch it off.
  2. Check that the plan has call balance or an active voice pack.
  3. Test with another Wi-Fi network. Some office and public networks block Wi-Fi Calling.
  4. Reset the network settings, then set up your APN again. See How to Reset APN Settings to Default.
